Our Beliefs

St. John’s is a member church of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod with a mission to make disciples of generations for generations. As part of this larger community of faith, we have these key beliefs that shape our lives together.

God: We believe that a real, personal God created the world and every person who has ever lived. We believe that God not only created us and all that there is, but is active in every area of creation, including the lives of all people.

Jesus: We believe that Jesus Christ, who is both fully God and fully man, came to Earth to die for the sins of the world. We believe that it is only through the forgiveness of Jesus that we can enter eternal life with God.

Holy Spirit: We believe that the Holy Spirit calls us to faith and sustains this same faith. We believe that we cannot have faith apart from the work of the Holy Spirit within us. We believe that the Holy Spirit is active in the hearts of all believers and in the church.

Baptism: We believe that baptism is a gift God gives to us. We believe that baptism joins us to the forgiveness of Jesus and gives us a living and active faith. We believe that baptism forms the basis of our identity as a child of God. We believe that this gift of God is for all nations and all ages.

Communion: We believe that communion is a special gift from Jesus. We believe that Jesus comes to us in communion, giving us His very body and blood in, with, and under, the bread and wine. We believe that this gift forgives our sins and strengthens our relationship with Him while also bringing us closer together as a community of faith.

The Church: We believe that God created the church to bring the good news of Jesus to the whole world. We believe that the church is called to share the Word of God and the gifts of baptism and communion. We believe that the church is called to care for members and seek to share Jesus with those who do not yet know Him. We believe that the church is called to share the hope and restoration of Jesus in word and deed.

The Bible: We believe that the Bible is God’s word spoken to us through many generations and many voices, but with one clear and consistent message of hope. We believe that the message of the Bible forms the basis for our life together and is truly God’s word for us. In a world where so much changes, we have the confidence that God’s word remains constant.
